Top 5 Spanish Grammar Songs on YouTube

Many of you would have googled different elements of Spanish grammar at some point during your time studying the language. As well as getting wikipedia pages and Spanish school produced websites explaining the grammar in a long and wordy way, you’ll often find a number of videos appearing in the search results. Many of these are for high school Spanish projects and some so bad that it’s hard to watch! However, some are actually very funny and can teach you quite a lot about the Spanish language. I have chosen my top 5 for your viewing enjoyment…

***Warning: if you have a severe aversion to all things cringe worthy I would not watch these videos!

5. The Preterite Tense Song

This one sneaks into my list at number 5. You don’t learn quite as much as you do in some of the other videos and the song itself contains little grammatical help. You need to really watch the video to learn anything. However, it’s pretty funny and well made. I find the main guy in this video a lot less annoying than the rappers/singers in most of these videos and well… it made me smile.

4. One semester of Spanish Spanish Love Song

This is a bit of a cheat entry. It’s not strictly about Spanish grammar. The song is a guy trying to seduce a woman with what he learnt from one semester of Spanish class. You won’t learn much more than a few phrases and even that would only be if you are an absoloute beginner but it’s a very funny video. I chuckled out loud at the end of the video when he says ‘Au revoir’. With almost 8 million views (the most of any of the videos on this list), this had to make the list.

3. Pronoun Paradise

This is one of two videos by Spanish teacher ProfaTProfaT. The other being to Will Smith’s The Prince of Bel Air. It’s a close call between the two but I think this video just slightly edges it for me. It’s a little hard to watch her being a ‘gangsta’ without pulling a funny face but what makes it all okay is that she knows she looks a little rediculous and is able to laugh at herself. It’s a good video for absoloute beginners, it’s easy to sing along to and pretty catchy.

2. Ser vs. Estar

This is by far the geekiest of all of these videos. There are moments (one being the dancing of the guy in the YouTube T-Shirt and jacket at 3.55min) that make you want to poke your eyes out to stop your skin crawling. The rap is quite hard to hear so its a good job that the words come up on the screen. The reason it’s number 2 on my list is that as well as being quite informative, the chorus is incredibly catchy! You’ll find yourself singing it all day long, even when you don’t want to be.

1. Cry me a Verb

My number one is by YouTuber SrMara, who has produced a number of these songs/videos to help with various Spanish grammar rules. The one with the most views is I’m bringing Conjugations Back, a remix of Justin Timberlake’s I’m Bringing Sexy Back, but it’s his remix of Timberlake’s Cry Me a River that I like. It’s the song that I think teaches you the most; covering all of the different types of present tense verb conjugations. It’s pretty funny and I like that it’s sung rather than rapped (his voice isn’t tooo bad). The Yoko Ono lookalike dressed as a monk dancing and miming out of time (3.15min) is a little weird though!
