Summertime tips for Seville

With the warmer months ahead of us in Seville, students start asking us what they can do to beat the heat and make the most of their time here in Seville. Here are a few tips to help keep as cool as a cucumber when the mercury starts to get higher.

Keep cool

During the warmest part of the day, between 14:00 and 17:00 it’s best to keep in doors or in a shady place. When leaving your accommodation in the morning, close up all the windows and exterior blinds so that the midday sun and heat doesn’t get into your room and don’t open them again until after the sun has gone down. You’ll find that the city is very quiet at this time of day because most locals eat a big lunch and have a rest or siesta at home until it’s cooler to go out. Having a siesta or rest during the hottest part of the day also helps when you are having later nights. Our students are often amazed at how late children are up during the summer, sometimes still out and about until midnight, but this is mainly due to the fact that they have all been asleep for a 3 hour siesta.

Watch a movie

Cine de verano (Summer Cinema) is a great activity to do in the evening and be in the outdoors and combine seeing a film that you have missed during the year and a meal. Cine de verano is from June to September in various locations around the city. The films are all shown in Spanish which is great for your language learning and in the outdoors at 22:15 when the sun is going down. The tickets cost just 4€ and there is a bar where you can get cheap drinks (1€) and simple tapas like “tortilla” (Spanish omelet) and “tomate aliñado” (fresh tomato dressed with oil, vinegar and salt).

Chill by the pool

From Friday the 5th of July, the Urban Beach Club at Hotel Lebreros Melia opens their swimming pool with Balinese sun beds and cocktail bar. Day passes can be purchased for just 10€ which includes a towel and opens from 12:00 noon until 22:00 every day until the end of September. For longer stays in Seville a two week pass can be purchased for 100€ or a month pass for 200€.

So don’t be afraid of the heat and come and see us in Seville this summer.
