When I decided to come to Valencia 3 years ago, I didn’t know how amazing it could be to live in this city … My first walk was a mix of curiosity and happiness… it was a sunny day and I stopped to have a quick breakfast in Plaza de la Virgen and when I asked the waiter for some tourist information, he advised me to visit the Turia Garden.
I was surprised when I first walked through the garden and realized that I was ‘inside’ a river, which used to be responsible for big floods in the city. After the catastrophic flood of 1957, Valencia decided to (a great decision btw!) divert the course of the river to a new artificial course, giving Valencia a new, lovely spirit.
A green line of nine kilometers has been converted into a cultural park, with little details along the way, which makes a great place to have a picnic, sunbathe, cycle, exercise, read a book, take the dogs for a walk and make some friends.
Since I’ve been here, I´ve had three favorite spots in the river. The first one was close to Puente de la Exposición where there is a beautiful and small river which is perfect to relax by. My second favorite spot is Parque de la Cabecera. I used to go there on Sundays to sunbathe and read a book. At the moment my favorite spot is in front of Palau de la Musica, where I can rollerblade during the afternoon.
There´s no doubt that you can have a lot of fun at Turia in many different ways. Our school in Valencia organizes some picnics with the students to enjoy all that Turia can offer: green space in the middle of downtown, fresh air and beautiful atmosphere.
