Seville is the fourth largest city of Spain but the historic centre -where our school is located- is compact and simple to navigate. You can easily find your way around the centreby foot.

Money

Spain is part of the Euro region and you can find a very good conversion tool for your currency into Euros here. You'll find a bank machine almost on every corner of the street which makes it very easy to withdraw cash whenever you need to. Credit cards are widely accepted but mostly restricted to Visa and MasterCard.

Getting around

Sevilla is a compact city and you'll find that you can walk almost any distance in the centre. The city centre is since only a short while for pedestrians only so that you can enjoy the stunning architecture without cars disturbing your stroll with noise and fumes.

Sevilla has installed one metroline that runs north to south and a tramline to make it easier to navigate the centre. There is also an excellent system of busses for the city and its surroundings. Here you can find more information about the public transport system in Sevilla.

Climate

Seville gets very hot in summer (temperatures normally around or above 35 °C [95 °F] but is mild in winter with temperatures between 10 °C [50 °F] and 20 °C [68 °F]. If you do not like the heat, then stay away in July and August.

Otherwise, Seville is a great destination to visit year round. The beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean are within a 40 minute journey from the city if you are looking for refreshment.

Airport

The airport of Sevilla is called San Pablo (code: SVQ) is located approximately 10km from the city centre. There are buses to the centre of town or you can take a taxi.

If you take a taxi, be aware that there is a fixed tariff (around Euro 20,00 depending on day and time of travel) from and to the airport so the driver will not switch on the meter.

Electricity

Spain has a 220V network and you may need an adaptor if you come from the UK or a non European country.

Daily expenses

Sevilla is not an expensive city compared to other destinations in Western Europe but the gap between Spain and other countries has narrowed over the years. The following overview provides a guideline for typical expenses excluding your accommodation cost:

Breakfast: croissant + coffee: € 2,50
Lunch: sandwich (bocadillo) + drink: € 4,00 or
Lunch: menú del día: € 8,00
Dinner: grocery shopping: € 5,00 or
Dinner: "cheap & cheerful" restaurant: €15,00
Transportation cost per day: € 1,50 (based on purchasing a multi trip pass)
Glass of wine / beer: € 1,00

Once you include other costs such as telephone card, entrance tickets to museums / cinema etc. a minimum daily allowance of € 20 is the minimum to survive on [excluding accommodation].

Working and Visa

No visa is required for anyone holding a EU passport. If you are from the United States, Canada, Australia, Israel, NewZealand, Norway, Switzerland or Iceland you can stay up to 90 days without a visa.

If you want to stay longer or you are a citizen from another country, check with your local Spanish consulate or embassy. You can find a list at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign affairs at www.mae.es.

Holders of an EU passport can work in Spain without a work permit. All that is required is to apply for a registration number (N.I.E.) and a social security number which is an administrative formality. Non EU passport holders cannot work without a work permit.
