FAQ: Spanish Course
Help! I don't speak any Spanish!
Our client services team at Babylon Idiomas is happy to help you in English, French, German, Dutch or Portuguese. Until you feel comfortable speaking Spanish, we'll make sure that we understand each other perfectly from the moment we meet.
Approximately 40% of our students do not speak a word of Spanish yet on their first day. So if you are one of those...you are not alone :)
Please note that you will be speaking Spanish in the classroom from your first day, even as a beginner. You'll be amazed how quickly you'll learn the language.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes, you'd have to be at least 18 years to study with us.
We do however reserve the right to admit 17 year old students from time to time. When that is the case, we need a so called release form from the parents stating that Babylon Idiomas is not responsible for the student as someone who is minor of age.
What is the age profile of Babylon Idiomas students?
We welcome students from 18 years and older. The typical age range is between 20 and 35 years but we welcome many older and younger students as well. The average age is somewhat younger in July and August when many students use their college or university holidays to study Spanish with Babylon Idiomas.
We found that regardless of age, any student who is interested in learning Spanish and meeting new friends from all over the world feels right at home with Babylon idiomas.
How do you know what level I am?
If you are an absolute beginner then we will email your time table in the week before you begin.
If you already speak some Spanish, you are expected at your school on the first Monday morning of the start of your course at 09:00. There you will be welcomed by our staff who will take you through a short level test to assess your Spanish language skills. With this information we'll be able to identify which level and group are ideal for you.
Can I change classes?
Yes you can. We of course try to place you at the appropriate level, right from the start, but sometimes it happens that you outgrow the level more quickly than expected, or that you would prefer a slower pace. If either is the case, we are happy to find you a new suitable class. No surcharges apply.
What is the class size?
Babylon Idiomas keeps the maximum class sizes small so that you learn better and faster.
In Spain, the maximum is 10 students;
In Argentina, the maximum is 6 student;
In Costa Rica, the maximum is 6 students in Playa Dominical, Tamarindo and San José. The maximum is 4 students in Turrialba.
What do I need to bring with me to school?
In Spain and Argentina study books need to be purchased at the school and are priced at 25€ per level. In Costa Rica, books are included with the fees.
What you need to bring is a pen and a notepad. We also recommend you bring a -small- dictionary. Please note that laptops are not allowed in class.
