Cuba Travel Information

Cuba is an island in the Caribbean lying south of Florida in the United States and east of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. It forms, with various adjacent islands, the republic of Cuba and has approximately 11 million habitants. The largest city is Havana, its capital.

Money

moneyThe national currency of Cuba is the peso but the official currency for foreigners in Cuba is the “Peso Convertible” (CUC).

USD is no longer accepted. However you can change USD at the exchange offices (local change rate of 10% needs to be paid). You will most probably not have to pay this commission if you buy the Peso Convertible with Euro’s, Canadian Dollars, British Pounds or Swiss Francs. We advise you to bring Euro´s though. With Euro´s you can buy the ‘peso convertible’ at hotel receptions, exchange offices and banks.

American Express (traveller cheques and credit card from any American companies) are not accepted.

Climate

climateThe Cuba climate is mild subtropical. Average temperatures throughout the year oscillates between 20ºC and 35ºC, lowering sometimes to 10°C. From November to April (wintertime, the dry season), the temperature is around 25ºC. In summertime (May to October) the air is very moist (80%) and you should count on some rainfall, mainly in the afternoon. Temperatures rise to 32-35ºC.

airportThe main international airport of Cuba is located in Havana and is called Jose Martí. José Martí airport handles flights from over 20 international airlines serving more than 50 worldwide destinations, mainly in Europe, North, Central and South America and national airlines serving domestic destinations.

electricityCuba has a 110 voltage network. You should bring an adaptor for personal appliances.
